Module 1: Medical Engineering
The tendered topics within this module focused on the significant reduction of radiation dose and scan duration by making use of prior knowledge for image reconstruction.
Cone beam CT, MRI, and PET were the central modalities of interest.
Previously acquired image data from diverse imaging modalities as well as anatomical atlases and mathematical models provided excellent prior knowledge sources.
One prior knowledge approach restricted the imaging to a certain body area (i.e. region of interest imaging) for interventional purposes.
Furthermore, additional knowledge was derived from otherwise acquired information on expected shifts (e.g. integrating the position of tracked instruments).
